Worcester is a cathedral town in Worcestershire, England, 30 miles south-west of Birmingham, 101 miles west-north-west of London, 27 miles Gloucester’s north and 23 miles north-east of Hereford. The population is around 100,000. The River Severn flanks the city Centre’s western side, overlooking the Worcester Cathedral. Worcester is recognised as the birthplace of Royal Worcester Porcelain, believed to be the world's oldest newspaper, composer Edward Elgar, Lea & Perrins, traditional Worcestershire sauce manufacturers, Worcester University, and Berrow's Worcester News.
The Contemporary City
Worcester is home to what is said to be the world's oldest newspaper still published, the Berrow's Worcester Journal, which traces its decline from a journal that began publishing in 1690.
Education
Worcester is home to the Worcester University. The city is home of two colleges, Heart of Worcestershire College and Worcester Sixth Form College. The high schools located in the city which are caters for blind and partially sighted pupils from the ages of 11 to 18. Worcester is the home of three independent schools as well.
