Warrington is a large town on the banks of the Mersey River and unitary city in Cheshire, England. It is in east of Liverpool, 20 miles (32 km), and west of Manchester. The population was evaluated at 209,700 in 2017, more than twice that of the New Town in 1968. It is the largest city in Cheshire County. The Romans established Warrington at an important crossing point on the Mersey River. Warrington had emerged by the Middle Ages as a market town at the river's lowest bridging level. A local tradition of textile and tool manufacturing history date back to this time.
Transport
There are five major train stations in Warrington, Warrington Central, and Warrington Bank Quay, both in the center of the city. The main bus station in Warrington is the Golden Square interchange.
Education
The University of Chester has an old Warrington Collegiate campus at Padgate. There are two colleges in Warrington:
- Priestley Sixth Form and Community College
- Warrington Collegiate
