Poole is a large coastal town and seaport in Dorset, on England's southern coast. The town is situated 33 kilometres (21 mi) east of Dorchester and adjoins Bournemouth to the east. The local authority has been a unitary authority for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council since 1 April 2019. Poole had an estimated population of 151,500, making it the second-largest town in Dorset's ceremonial county. Poole is a tourist resort with a large natural harbour, culture, the Lighthouse Arts Centre and beaches of the Blue Flag, attracting visitors.
Education
Bournemouth University was founded as a university in 1992. The main campus and buildings of the university (Talbot Campus) are within the boundaries of Poole Borough, a smaller campus situated in Bournemouth itself. In 2012, Arts University Bournemouth was designated as a university and is situated in Wallisdown. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and professional training in creative arts, architecture and media. Media courses are the strength of the university and recent assessments of teaching quality have resulted in ' excellent ' ratings for courses in the areas of communication and media, business and management, catering and hospitality, archaeology and nursing and midwifery.
