This is a large market town of Northamptonshire. It is one of the largest towns of England. It has a population of 2,12,000. The city has many churches and monasteries. The great fire of Northampton destroyed the town in 1675. Much to the industrial development of the eighteenth century, the city was rebuilt.
Transport
Railway: The railway station is on the loop of the west coast mainline. This serves London Euston in the south and Birmingham and Crewe on the north.
Air: The midlands airport and luton airport are the two international airports which can be accessed quickly by the M1 motorway.
Education
The university of Northampton is the only higher education establishment in the town. It has courses from undergraduate level to postgraduate level. The six schools of the university are Health, Science and Technology, Education, Social Sciences, Business, and the Arts. There are a total of fifty primary schools and eight secondary schools in Northampton.
