Leicester is a city and unitary city in England's East Midlands and Leicestershire county town. The city is located on the River Soar and at the east end of the National Forest. It is situated northeast of Birmingham and Coventry, south of Nottingham, west of Peterborough. The City of Leicester Unitary Authority's 2016 mid-year population estimate was 348,300, an increased rate of approximately 18,500 (an increase of 5.6 %) from the 2011 census figure of 329,839, making it the most populated city in the East Midlands region. The associated urban area is also England's 11th most populous and UK's 13th most populous.
Education
There are several comprehensive schools and independent schools in Leicester. Initially, the Leicester City Local Education Authority had a troubled history when it was established as part of the reorganization of local government in 1997 – a 1999 Ofsted inspection found "few strengths and many weaknesses", although there has been considerable improvement since then. Tudor Grange Samworth Academy an academy whose catchment area homes the Saffron and Eyres Mansell estates was co-sponsored by the Church of England and David Sam worth, chairman of Sam worth Brothers pasty makers.
