Doncaster is a big city in England's South Yorkshire. The city is part of Doncaster's Metropolitan Borough. In 2011, the Doncaster Urban Area had a population of 158,141 and included Doncaster and small villages adjacent to it.
Economy
From the late 18th to the 20th centurysnip, Doncaster developed as an industrial centre. Due to its communication ties, particularly its waterways, Doncaster became extremely busy and experienced vast migration to its middle. Because of its proximity to main urban centres and road/rail infrastructure, Doncaster has several major distribution hubs, including the 420-acre Doncaster International Railport, which moves goods by rail to Europe.
Sports
Doncaster has adopted the affluent stagecoach trade from around the 16th century. This led to Doncaster's horse breeding, which in turn led to the horses starting there. Founded in 1951, Doncaster has consistently played at the Keepmoat Stadium in the National League One rugby league and its successor the RFL Championship. Recent recreation projects include a new community sports stadium for sports teams, including men's soccer club cities, Doncaster Rovers F.C., and one of the country's most active women's soccer clubs.
