Introduction
Derby is located in England. Derby lies on the banks of the River Derwent towards the south of Derbyshire. The city gained city status in 1977 and as now it’s population is 2,48,700.
Derby is home to the world’s second-largest aero-engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce. Also, Toyota’s Manufacturing UK’s automobile headquarters is located towards the southwest of the city at Burnaston.
Landmarks
The Derby cathedral tower is 212 feet tall, and located in the Dungeons of the Derbyshire County is the Derby gaol which makes it a good visitors attraction.
The other interesting landmarks are the Pickford’s House Museum which was built by Joseph Pickford. There is also a museum known as Derby Museum and Art gallery which shows paintings by Joseph Wright.
Transport
Road: Derby is linked to the southwards London area by the M1 motorway and northwards to Sheffield and Leeds.
Railways: The East midlands railway operates the Derby station and the expresses to London are operating in the city.
Air: East midlands airport is located at a distance of 24 km from Derby City. The airport is served by budget airlines such as Ryanair and Jet2 with services of both domestic and international.
