Darlington is a large market town in North East England, County Durham. The city sits on the River Skerne, a River Tees tributary, with a population of 105,564 in 2011. As part of the Borough of Darlington this town is administered. The town is often referred to as 'Darlo' in colloquial terms.

Education
The town has the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College. Many other colleges, including Carmel RC Technology College, Haughton Academy, Wyvern Academy, Hummersknott Academy, Longfield Academy, Hurworth School, Polam Hall School, and St Aidan's England Academy Church, are open. Darlington College is the newly built FE College. Teesside University opened a Darlington campus in 2011 offering higher education in the town to students and businesses.
Sport
The town is home to the Darlington 1883 football team, the successor club to Darlington F.C., known as The Quakers due to contributions made to the town by men including Edward and Joseph Pease, founders of the Religious Society of Friends.
