The railways continue to play a part in Crewe Work's local industry, which performs train repair and inspection. To the north of the railway station, served by DB Schenker Rail, there is still an electric locomotive maintenance depot. As a maintenance facility for a private steam company, the diesel locomotive maintenance depot has recently reopened and has undergone major structural repairs. The Bentley car factory is west of the city on Pyms Lane, the company hires around 3,500 people.
