Corby is a town and district in Northampton shire County, England. Census town had a population of 54,927 at the 2011 and the area had a population of 61,255. Due to a large number of Scottish migrant workers who came to Corby for their steelworks, the area was once locally known as "Little Scotland."
Employment
The rate of unemployment has fallen back to a level similar to the national average since the 1980s (2.7% in October 2005). Employment is biased towards manufacturing (36.8% compared with a regional average of 18.5%) and against public administration, health and education (10.0% compared with the regional average of 25.9%).
Education
For post-16 students and adult learners, the Corby campus of Tresham Institute of Further and Higher Education offers a range of vocational courses. The Brooke Weston Academy, opened in 1990, was one of only fifteen CTCs in England. Brooke Weston CTC has consistently earned assessment results in the top 5% of English state schools and since September 2008 has been a City Academy. Currently, in Corby, there are five secondary schools.
