Chelmsford

Chelmsford is the largest settlement in eastern England's Chelmsford district and Essex county town. It is situated in the London commuter belt, about 30 miles (48 km) north-east of London's notional centre at Charing Cross, and about 35 km (22 miles) from Colchester. The city's urban area has a population of around 112,000, while the district has a population of 168,310

 Economy

Chelmsford is a major city with about 80,000 workers. There are three shopping centres of medium size, High Chelmer, Bond Street and The Meadows. Chelmsford has six retail parks, Chelmer Village, Riverside, Clocktower Retail Park, Moulsham Lodge Retail Park, The Army & Navy and the smaller Homelands Retail Park housing a Flagship B&Q Store, Wyvale Garden Centre (part of the Garden Centre Group) and Pets Corner

 Education

Chelmsford is also home to the Anglia Ruskin University (formerly known as Anglia Polytechnic) and the Chelmsford County High School and King Edward VI Grammar School. Chelmsford College is the city's leading provider of further education.
